The Foundation was established to support and advance the sport of rugby through the University of Central Florida rugby program. We can provide financial assistance for a variety of projects including facilities, equipment, coaching and operational expenses such as travel, lodging and meals as well as funding medical/trainer assistance to make the game as safe as possible.
The Foundation will provide a resource outside of the traditional sources of player dues, assistance from the University, and sponsorship. We will provide a nimble and flexible platform to help meet expenses outside of the normal budget (such as playoffs), special projects (short and long term) and programs to enhance and improve the rugby experience at UCF and grow the club.
The Rusted Knights Rugby Foundation will be a supplement to the traditional sources of revenue for UCF Rugby outside of the University structure and in addition to the Rugby Scholarship Fund.

The idea for the foundation came about when I (Coach Ken Lindsay) was working on my estate planning. I decided I wanted to leave some of my estate to UCF Rugby, which I have been involved with for a large part of my life. I wanted a venue that would be accessible to the rugby club to use as they saw fit, a resource that would be nimble and flexible. The Rugby Scholarship Fund can only be used for scholarships, and to give the money to the school I felt would require a lot of administrative red tape to get it to the actual end user, the rugby club. Thus the Rusted Knights Rugby Foundation. As I researched what went in to starting a foundation, I realized that this might be a platform that all of the rugby alumni and interested supporters might want to get involved with, so it shifted to a larger scope. Thus far all the people I have talked to had a positive response, so I think we are on the right track! The foundation will be a platform to get things done both in real time and for the long term development of UCF Rugby.
The Rusted Knights Foundation was designed to supplement the funding provided by the school and the revenue generated by player dues. Many of you are currently donors to the Rugby Scholarship Fund and we definitely want that to continue. Of course the donations to the Rugby Scholarship Fund can only be used for scholarships. The Foundation would provide more flexibility to help in areas of need for the current team and also look at longer term projects.
UCF Rugby has been around over 35 years and we have a significant number of Alumni players and supporters. Think back to your rugby playing days and your time at UCF, and the part the rugby club played in your college experience. Here is a chance to utilize our strength in numbers through the Rusted Knights Rugby Foundation to enhance the rugby experience of these current players and strengthen UCF Rugby for the future. If you would like to be part of the effort, please donate what you can. Together we can do great things!
To kick off the Foundation, as an introductory gift those who give $100 or more will receive the latest club hat. To get your hat please complete the “Get in touch with us” section.
The men finished up their Fall preseason with a hard fought victory over local Men’s club the Claymores. We put out a side which was a mix of veterans and newer players, and they all showed well.
On the same weekend four of our top players represented UCF playing for the Florida College All Stars: Caleb Goertson, Jaxon Patterson, Noah Morris and Mike Ditrillio in Spartanburg, South Carolina where they played against the Heart Of America (Midwest) representative side. The Rusted Knights Rugby Foundation was able to give each player $100 to help offset their personal expenses for the trip (which may or may not have involved buying beer or other beverages). This is the type of project that the Foundation would like to get involved with, to promote UCF players raising their level of play and bringing recognition to our program.
The men will jump into their Spring league schedule right after the Christmas break with their first game being January 25.
The women, transitioning from legendary long time coach Raul Besse to new coach Andrew Gottlieb, had another successful 15’s season this Fall, qualifying for the playoffs. In the Spring they will shift their attention to seven a side and continue to build the club through recruiting and fund raising.
